Day 18 – How can you believe God is everywhere- all the time?

Psalm 139:1-18 New Living Translation (NLT)

O Lord, you have examined my heart
    and know everything about me.
You know when I sit down or stand up.
You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
You see me when I travel
and when I rest at home.
    You know everything I do.
You know what I am going to say
even before I say it, Lord.
You go before me and follow me.
You place your hand of blessing on my head.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too great for me to understand!

I can never escape from your Spirit!
I can never get away from your presence!
If I go up to heaven, you are there;
if I go down to the grave, you are there.
If I ride the wings of the morning,
if I dwell by the farthest oceans,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
and your strength will support me.
11 I could ask the darkness to hide me
and the light around me to become night—
12     but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.
To you the night shines as bright as day.
Darkness and light are the same to you.

13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
16 You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.

17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.
    They cannot be numbered!
18 I can’t even count them;
they outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up,
    you are still with me!

In my past, I have never really been drawn to the Psalms in the bible. I often heard quotes, poems and stories which included them, but often- to be honest -they bore me a bit.

Lately, I have been kicking myself for this. I have been digging into them and have found so much love, knowledge and wisdom in them! They are far from boring, full of stories and so applicable to life. I guess this is just another step in my growth process; it is a step though that I am thoroughly enjoying!

Often people ask the question: how can one God – see all people, know all people, hear every persons thoughts and know every detail; about every single person on this planet? All at the same time!

I have to admit, this is a very legitimate question; it is one that I have pondered for many years.

This is also one of the ultimate questions that Satan can place in your mind.

Why – you might ask? Because it creates doubt and disbelief. This question – makes us think of God on a human level and by doing so, prevents our minds from being able to comprehend this concept…it is illogical and seems impossible.

Well, it is impossible, illogical and quite frankly unattainable – For a human! 🙂

Guess what though…God is not human!

Amen and hallelujah!

If he were human, this world – well it wouldn’t even exist!

One day, this question was laying heavy on my heart; I wanted to believe that this was possible! I knew that God had power that far surpassed human comprehension and that he was not limited as humans are. It was just unfathomable and I really wanted some way to wrap my head around it.

I tend to be a visual person; I understand things better if I can picture them in my mind. I need to be able to relate concepts or ideas to something tangible; something physical I can associate them with.

Well, God is not one to withhold answers from one seeking them!

I was in an inconspicuous spot – the bathroom! (Sorry, but for a mom with two young kiddos…sometimes this is the only place silence occurs!) Randomly, I began to think about a snow globe. (I know this just keeps becoming more and more strange…hang with me :-))

I began to picture a snow globe – one my mom had when I was growing up. It was one the was out during the Christmas holiday. It had several houses, people, animals, buildings and cars. It was depicting a scene of a city during the holiday; showing people shopping, visiting, singing and playing.

The thought hit me…I can see them all! Granted, the only movement was the fake snow falling, but I could see everything! I could see each person in detail, each car, each building and every piece of snow that fell.

It made me think about if I were to create a snow globe – I would be the “creator” and the snow globe would be my “creation”. I would place each detailed object in its specific location; every person, tree, animal, building, car and piece of snow.

I would be able to know everything about this snow globe! I could look down on it and see everything; every moment of every day! If a piece broke…I could fix it. I could add things and remove things as needed!

I then imagined the world as a giant snow globe and God as the creator! It all made sense!

Granted a snow globe is a pretty simplistic object to compare the world to, but by scaling down the huge object (the world) and applying it to something my brain could comprehend (a snow globe)…it was all I needed to throw out any doubt I had.

The world is big huge and it is unfathomable how someone or something could know all and see all – all of the time!

The good news is…we as humans will never be tasked with this job! 🙂

God will continue to know every one of our thoughts, needs, wishes, characteristics and hearts! He already knows what the future holds…because this world and us- we are his “snow globe” and his creation.

He created each of us for this world…we each have a reason, a purpose and a job! Thankfully, we are only tasked with doing our job and he is even willing to guide us through that!

How can one God – see all people, know all people, hear every persons thoughts and know every detail; about every single person on this planet? All at the same time!

A very legitimate question!

If you have every wondered about or had this question yourself… I hope this very small comparison will help quench your thirst for an answer as it did mine.
