Day 7 – Not written in Ink

2 Corinthians 3:1-6New Living Translation (NLT)

Are we beginning to praise ourselves again? Are we like others, who need to bring you letters of recommendation, or who ask you to write such letters on their behalf? Surely not! The only letter of recommendation we need is you yourselves. Your lives are a letter written in our hearts; everyone can read it and recognize our good work among you. Clearly, you are a letter from Christ showing the result of our ministry among you. This “letter” is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is carved not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts.

We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ. It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God. He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life.

If you flip through the channels on Sunday morning you will find numerous channels showing church services. This is one of the areas where technology has greatly helped to spread the word of God; to make it available to those who aren’t able to get to a church for any number of reasons.

One thing that has always tugged a bit at my conscience is the fact that sometimes…the person that is “preaching” doesn’t really preach from the bible.

They are “preaching” and they are “preaching” God’s word…but it’s being done in a way that seems manipulative and misleading.

Todays verse(s) I read multiple times. This is actually not at all what I “planned” on writing about, but then again…write your plans in pencil and give God the eraser :-). It really spoke to me though, because Paul is defending his ministry against some “false teachers” of his time.

He is saying that some come with ‘letters of recommendation’ that “prove” and authenticate their authority. They come to convince you that they are legitimate and have God’s authority to speak to you…and to “teach” you. Really though, they have only their own personal gain in mind.

I listened to one of the Sunday morning “sermons” not too long ago, just because I was curious. It took place in a very nice church, it had thousands in attendance and the preacher was very-well-put-together. Throughout the message he spoke about giving. If you give, as God has asked, God will in turn bless you significantly!

Well, this is in the bible and tithing is something that is very biblical and of great importance. It is also true that God does say that he will be faithful and bless us when we bless him with our first fruits.

God does not say…Tithe= Get Rich Fast! Which is the message that I was getting.

Paul says: The only letter of recommendation we need is you yourselves.

I fell in love with this! Why? Because it is exactly what any person speaking the word of God should believe and say! When the “true” word of God is being spoken – there doesn’t need to be any physical proof…because the proof is written on hearts! It isn’t written on paper with ink…it is written on the heart of those who are hearing it by the Spirit of God.

Paul goes on to say: We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ. It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God. He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life.

Again, LOVE!

As a person/human being…No one is qualified to speak Gods word or to teach it on their own! No one! Our qualification comes from God!

When Jesus returned to heaven, he sent his Holy Spirit back in his place. He has not only offered it to Pastors or Church staff, he left an open invitation. Anyone who chooses to accept and follow God, will receive the Holy Spirit! It is the Holy Spirit that gives a person the ability to speak Gods truths!

Gods word can be spoken by anyone, with any agenda…But the true word is always going to guide us towards God and his will. It will guide us towards helping others, loving compassionately and having a servant’s heart.

When God’s word is being spoken the person speaking should be humble and fully aware all of the Glory goes to God and God alone. If they are self-righteous or self-indulging…likely not a good sign.

Yes, God will bless those who are trusted with little and do a lot…but Gods blessings are rewards for obedience to his word. Gods blessing don’t work on a give more money, get more money scheme. God’s blessings can be so much more than a number in your bank account!

When the true word of God is spoken…it imprints itself on our heart. You feel it in your heart! It is like your spirit self is connecting with your spiritual daddy and you cant help but feel it and want to share it!

We can all be “qualified” through God to speak his word. We also need to be careful with whom we allow to speak it to us and make sure that they too, have been qualified by God. They need not provide paper written on with ink…they will be able to provide people with imprinted hearts!

I was truly blessed today by a dear friend of mine. Through him I discovered Andrew Green! He is amazing and you not only hear his message when he speaks about God, but you feel it! There is no glitz and glamour…just God’s word being spoken and it is amazing! Please, if you have chance, check him out…you will be blessed!
