Do you ever have those days where you are just not quite sure “who” you are? I mean, you know your name, you know what you look like, you know you’re a mom, a sister, a friend, an employee and all kinds of other things. When you stop to think about it though…who are we really?
Some days we feel great! We feel successful and valued. Maybe something was accomplished at work that you received praise for. Perhaps you won a game or bought something nice for yourself. Maybe things are going fantastic in your relationship and you feel greatly valued and in love.
Then there are other days…days where we do not feel so valued. Maybe a job was lost, a relationship ended, or maybe it was just a bad day. Perhaps you are a mom and the kids were just out of control and you felt like the worst mother ever.
Everyday, we are faced with new and different challenges. Some days, the same challenges carry over, but everyday “life” happens. We are all different in many ways, but this is one thing that rings true for every human alive. Everyday, there is something that we are here for!
My oldest son asked me one time “Mommy why did God make me?” My answer to him was “Because he made you to be awesome and you are here to do something amazing!” He laughed and replied “awwwesome” his new word of choice.
Last night the boys and I were listening to music and singing and dancing. Trust me the dancing was bad, mine worst of all and the singing…well lets just say God did not bless us in the tone department. We were having a great time! The song Who am I by Casting Crowns came on:
Who am I, that the Lord of all the earth
Would care to know my name,
Would care to feel my hurt?
Who am I, that the Bright and Morning Star
Would choose to light the way
For my ever wandering heart?
Not because of who I am
But because of what You’ve done.
Not because of what I’ve done
But because of who You are.
I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow.
A wave tossed in the ocean.
A vapor in the wind.
Still You hear me when I’m calling.
Lord, You catch me when I’m falling.
And You’ve told me who I am.
I am Yours, I am Yours.
And this folks, is where my inspiration for today’s post came!
I am not sure how many people are in the world at this time. I know there are different figures out there, but all I know is there are a bazillion gillion (a whole lot!) of us. When you look at the whole picture, it is pretty easy to feel small and useless. Often we feel as though we have to find our worth in our success. We want to make money so that we can have the nice house, nice clothes and nice car. We want to have to husband, the wife, the perfect kids and a dog (maybe a cat, I am a dog person though). We measure our selves by these things.
The funny thing is though, we so highly measure our self off of our success, but our success is what actually fails us. The ladder of success keeps on growing taller. The higher you get, the further you want to climb. The more money you make, the more you buy. You feel satisfied and complete…temporarily.
Then the new “stuff” you bought becomes old. Your title becomes old. Your “new” relationship has staled. Now…who are you?
Well, we have been doing it all wrong. Nothing that we acquire here on this earth will ever truly make us happy. It won’t! Simply because nothing that we acquire is permanent. There is nothing physically in our lives right now that we can say 100% will be there tomorrow. People pass, houses crumble, cars crash, clothes tear, toys break…! Nothing is permanent.
Maybe we need to reintroduce ourselves to “who” we really are. We are the child of God. He created us and formed us. He Loves us! He doesn’t love us for our possessions, our religion or what we have done. No, folks He LOVES US! He is who we are.
A lot of times our attitude will determine how we face our day. When things are going well we hold our head up high; when things start to go down we can get angry, hurt and look find a way to justify our failure.
This is the human in us, but really all that God ask of us is to give him our heart. Not our perfection, but our heart. He already knows the mistakes we have made, will make and the wrongs we have done. He also knows the good things we have done and the great things we will do. He knows everything…he knows who you truly are!
Romans 8:28- And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
As we run around in the world trying to “find” ourselves or “make” ourselves, He wants to share that with you. The peace of knowing that he knows who you are and no matter what he will make sure that life “works” for you. Not that he will make it easy, but he will show your purpose and make you more useful than the world ever could.
You are his child. He loves you! Whether you had great parents or horrible parents, EVERY person on this earth has a Father who madly loves them!
Your past is forgiven and forgotten. Once you give it to him, he will take your past and wipe it from his memory. You may still hold onto it, but he doesn’t.
2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
You are an amazing, wonderful and cherished person. You are beautiful and valued by God. There is no human being or possession on this earth that can value you like he can.
Call on him and ask that he help guide you to see your purpose. If you are struggling with a sense of belonging, he will provide you with the belonging you long for. God is the only permanent thing in our lives that we can count on day in and day out. Find peace and happiness in the fact that he CHOSE you, he CREATED you and YOU are here for a reason and to serve a PURPOSE!!!!
